‘the house of european history exhibition building’ by GPDview of the first floor

 

 

the winning entry for the design of the permanent exhibition of the ‘house of european history’ in brussels by sevilla-based GPD proposes to establish a direct dialogue with the architecture of the building, generating a natural flow of light and information. influenced by the european motto: ‘united in diversity’. the exhibition will grow around the idea of shared memories. a vast column, situated in the atrium of the building, will extend upwards from the first floor to the top of the building, displaying and articulating the visitor’s experience. this large vertical showcase will contain objects representing the essential materials of europe’s past. surrounding this structure, the galleries will display the historical narratives through scenographic, audio-visual and interactive installations. thanks to the incorporation of multimedia devices, visitors will be able to move around the space, and enjoy full access to unlimited information in all official languages of of the european union.

 

the house of european history is expected to open its doors to the public by the end of 2015.
