flucabag jacket

designregio kortrijk developed in 2011 with the young designer diane steverlynck and the fashion label girls from omsk a flashy, multiuse “fluorescent jacket”, to encourage young children (12-18 years) to wear this always in public spaces, in order to enhance their visibility in the street and their safety in traffic. the “flucabag” ( fluo + cape + bag) can easily be transformed from a jacket into a cape and finally into a carrying bag. through this ingenious, multi-purpose transformation process, designregio kortrijk wants to promote the jacket to be worn consistently in the street, but also to be given to young children as a useful, flashy item for them to be proud of, and to link fashion and usability. the gender-based approach (cape versus jacket) and the use as a bag, all in one, make this design a desirable and unique item. the flashy, fluorescent colours guarantee more visibility and safety in the street, regardless of the way children use it. this is design transformed into a multi-purpose safety item, the “flucabag”.
