young and beautiful - a modular furniture for teenagers to lounge and chill
young and beautiful adapts to the needs of every teenager.
The modular system contains 3 same sized cuboids, divided differently by a rolling line.
The modules are made out of a dense foam, and as there are only 6 different shapes (or 3 different ones if the cuboids get cut), production costs should be rather low.
Idealy there should be a large number of different textile covers available, with changing collections over the years.
Divided the cuboids make seats and tables to chill, to study and to think about life. They invite the user to sit in different positions, of which some are classic yoga positions. Stacked together they can either be tidied up against a wall or flat on the floor they can make a bed for guests.
All these elements give the teenager the possibility to fully personalize their furniture. They can choose the amount of cuboids they want to buy. They can choose wether to buy the young, the and or the beautiful-shape, and they choose the cover and most important the can change the cover. In use of course young and beautiful invites to discover new ways of combining them, over and over again. In my vision of this furniture I see the different cover collections become some sort of fashion. So if you see a photo of your past with the furniture in it, you know exactly when the photo was taken; just like those embarrassing photos in the old 85 denims...
I think changeable furniture is very important in the teenage years, as teenagers are trying to find their style in those years, and the taste can change quiet dramatically.
This is a furniture that could be in use for several generations. If I had had that furniture as a teenager, I would have kept one cuboid for shure. And who knows, today it would probably be a piece in the room of my 4 year old daughter and I would have bought a Harry Potter cover for it. It is time that furniture gets an emotional value again.
