designer's own words:
We imagine that temporary shelter has to be light and flexible, easy to be carried around, simple to manipulate and fitted to a wide range of personal needs. A metal trolley and a sort of structural “carpet” compose our kit; flexible mat consist in a thermoformed polyurethane foam sheet, constituted by triangular shaped element, joint together by a soft waterproof film. The structural enforcement is guaranteed by the rigidity of the triangular elements, while the soft film provides unlimited conversions of shapes. X-tent takes the silhouette of an open hut protecting from sun or rain, or a small and safe “igloo” to shelter people in the night; it can substitute the bench and become a relaxing spot. Once packed X-tent can be transformed into a box to store personal belonging. Any morphologic evolution is achieved by a few elementary, intuitive operations. Aggregations of shapes give birth to a small urban fragment in where it is possible to perceive the infinite ways to organize the space. The idea of temporary shelter is highlighted by the strong impact of logo printed on the coating film of X-tent. Basically we consider that this shelter should be effectively visible in order to captive the awareness of common people and emphasize that problem of homelessness must be solved!
