wooden boxes by michael penck from australia
designer's own words:
the design brief: what do you do with timber waste in rural environments? use the material (wind break/ pruning/ cutting/ felling etc) to create interesting products in off-times with inexpensive machinery. the design of these boxes incorporate the spirit of older skills: the 'fine stitching' of fabric (the fine finger tails), the small sizes (jewellery like), the decoration with other materials like horn/ bone/ shells etc, a simple lid with no mechanical hinges and interesting patterns.. the maker is left with a great deal of aesthetic freedom. the 'disadvantage' of being in the hinterland of the big cultural centres can become an advantage. the photo shows a few of my results.
