where water springs by Toshikatsu Kiuchi from japan
designer's own words:
‘where water springs’ is an assembly of cast silicone rubber + cast-in wooden slats/posts + pre-stressed cast-in tension cables, which forms a winding body with numerous spatial concaves allowing people to immerse themselves by walking, reading or dozing like wandering along a streamside.
Cast-in wooden slats/posts give certain rigidity to the silicone body. Pre-stressed tension cables link those wooden members inside silicone. At the points where the body forms an arch action, the cables raise it up by tightening the links between the wooden members.
The assembly system enhances soft, elastic & redundant performance both in structural and spatial sense, all which aim is to create an organic whole where human motions & activities are integrated parts of it.
