designer's own words:

Wedge a polyhedral solid defined by two triangles and three trapezoid faces, when viewed from one angle looks surprisingly looks like a single plane, hiding the three dimension beneath that surface.
The concept is to create the illusion of a single surfaced handle and hence the name wedge.
The surfaces of the handle all guide the eye towards the tip of the wedge, which acts as a one-line union.
The mystery is revealed when viewed from other angles.
Deviating from the traditional form of handle where the rose is visible, the wedge conceals the rose beneath its form.
