Watermelon City by VivianJ from australia
designer's own words:
In the city, people plant whole lot of watermelon and they extract watermelon sugar to build many things.
This is a literature inspired masterplan project with the vision of having sugar to replace petroleum in the future.
“What if watermelon becomes the new source of energy?” What sort of implication will it brings to the city?”
Having such hypothesis, the value of watermelon will drastically increase as high as petroleum, everyone in the city will start to plant watermelon. Therefore, in order to cover local petroleum consumption annually, a massive amount of land is required.
By taking vertical farming as a reference, scaffolding structure acts as a kit of part that formed towers and towers in the new city to accommodate living space as well as watermelon plantation area.
Water areas will become storage facilities for harvested watermelon due to the buoyancy of the watermelon itself and the water temperature that helps to regulate temperature for the watermelons.
