Waterfalls by A. Gianotti from italy
designer's own words:
“Waterfalls” is a wall clock that uses LED technology.
The name of this product reflects the movement of the time units that falling down like drops of a waterfall. The movement of light is constant and fluid, it allows both to illuminate the surrounding environment and to know the time.
"Waterfalls" creates a dynamic environment into the domestic space, creating a beautiful play of light and movement as well. This product consists of three parts, they show the passage of the hours, minutes and seconds.
I used a lot of inspiration to create this wall clock, I wanted to have more functions than that of light.
These inspirations are five: a service that informs and illuminates at the same time (the Piccadilly Led Wall in London), an object that counts time (basketball scoreboard), the sense of dynamism (the nature, especially the waterfalls) the minimal architecture (Mies van der Rohe architecture) to give more importance to the led light than the product and finally a product that allows to customize the values of a service in order to give more freedom to the users (telecontrol). Combining these five inspirations I designed this wall clock.
To illuminate and show the time I designed these three panels, they are composed by black lacquered aluminum (500x1200x20 mm). Every panel have cells composed by 11x11 LEDs (60 cells for seconds and minutes panels and 12 cells for hours panel).
The "light drops" fall from the top and accumulate in the bottom part of the panels. Once the panel of seconds is full, the latter becomes empty and a drop falls in the panel of minutes.
The same situation happens with minutes and hours panels.
I found it necessary to think of a smartphone app, simple and easy to use, that allows to customize the values of the light directly from the user's smartphone. In this way the user, sitting comfortably on his couch, can change the brightness and color of the light.

“Waterfalls” can light up an entire room, which becomes a dynamic and changing environment thanks to the incessant passage of time, and therefore thanks to the amount of light that is emitted by “Waterfalls”.
