vary terior by HIROSHI OTA from denmark
designer's own words:
Our idea of varY-terior creates three motions.
Motion in ecology
VarY-terior is made of aluminum pipes, fabrics, which both had been used for baby buggies, and steel disks, which had been thrown away from housing makers. This eco-friendly approach can extend the life of manufactured materials.
Motion in space
This varY-terior is able to be moved and turned around by two people to make three different spaces. One is open to the sky, second is closed like tents, third makes border between two people like partitions.
Motion in human activity
Each pattern of three forms released various affordances for tents, hammocks, chairs, PC deck, book shelves, and so on. This could fascinate people and help them relax in daily activities.
In addition to that, principles of structure and material make possible these motions in space, human activity, and ecology.
Structure principle of wings of dragonflies
The trigeminal structure was derived from wings of dragonflies. The trigeminal veins take a key role as flaps in the wind. Likewise the 3D trigeminal structure in varY-terior can correspond to loads flexibly.
Material principle of aluminum pipe and fabric
Aluminum pipe has a large elasticity, which makes the number of leg touching on the ground increase from three, normally, to four or five according to the amount of load. Then it can go back to three legs without load on varY-terior. Also stretching fabrics help to stabilize the structure as tension members to restrain deformation.
In conclusion, we are sure that the varY-terior with three motions from two active principles can give a happy second to you in your daily routine, and small kindness to the earth in global routine. .
This is our varY-terior.
