urban circuit by chaojun sun sun from china
designer's own words:
Winnipeg is a typical Canadian city, which suffers from over 6 months winter each year, people spend a lot of time indoor and emit considerable energy in buildings, how to collect this big amount of energy to heat the building and make the urban life sustainable?
The energy generated from the movement of large numbers of pedestrians through an occupied space and from the solar panels setting on the roofs of parkades can be stored in the system and transmitted to different buildings. Using the exsiting pedestrian bridges and newly installed parkade solar panels as the energy generator, connect them to form a loop and people in this area can share the benifit from kinetic energy and nature's gift.
What is more important, people can easily access to different programs, the downtown becomes a multifarious bigger hybrid. In the winter, the tough weather makes Winnipeggers to use this indoor circulation frequently, the interaction between building and people turns downtown to be interesting and productive.
