Tyndall Table + Steel Wood Table by thom fougere from canada
designer's own words:
tyndall table
the coffee table is the nucleus of a living space; the central object around which dwelling patterns revolve: living, drinking, eating, loving, making, sleeping. taking cues from the topography of canadian prairies, the top is planed relatively smooth allowing the stone to retain its unique character. left unfinished, substances and casual wear will slowly degrade the stone top, exposing fossil fragments and revealing layers of stories embedded within the material. over time the accumulation of puddled water marks, a splash of wine and scribbles of past dreams will meld into the material's already varied past – creating a nostalgic condition.
steel wood table
the steel wood table is made of finely crafted cherry wood, and powder coated tubular steel. two solid wood planks hover producing two functional areas: the table top, a flexible space with an allowance for a variety of everyday uses, and a storage space burrowed between the two planes. the storage space provides obvious function and the platform to celebrate clutter, bringing a rational beauty to chaos. Although the design is visually quite simplified, the tight radius and exceptionally minimal deformation of the bends in the steel tubing is achieved by utilizing state of the art tube bending and forming machinery. by foregoing the temptation of loud details, the Steel Wood Table remains congruent with thom fougere's insistence of keeping stylistic aesthetics to a minimum.
