Triboelectric Debit Card by Bradley Bader from usa
designer's own words:
Over 90% of customers use bank cards, and they dominate the non-cash payment market. Hard currency is slowly being displaced by debit cards as the preferred payment method. In 2012, a customer used a debit card for an average of 313 transactions a year. With 26 Million Debit Card Holders at Deutsche Bank thats 8.1 Billion transactions. That’s a lot of inserting and swiping. Now imagine if the friction from each swipe could generate energy. With the aid of triboelectrification, the friction from any 2 surfaces can be utilized to create a voltage when in contact or swiped. And now, with the arrival of next-generation materials which dramatically increase surface area, the resulting charge transfer is enhanced by a 1000 fold. It turns every Deutsche Bank customer into an energy supplier -a watt of energy generated with every swipe. Those 8.1 Billion transactions a year equate to nearly 12% of germany’s total power output . With all that energy customers are creating, perhaps money isn’t the only thing they should be able to deposit at ATMs. Let’s empower customers to give back in the future of banking with a triboelectric debit card.
A first of its kind design harnessing tribolectric energy, which enables consumers to lead the next energy revolution with each card swipe.
