designer's own words:
background:
the designing of the door handle for the project has been a fun and exciting. the design has come from looking at organic shapes, keeping in mind the shape of door handles and the shape of the human hand. the use of the door handle is more of a paddle than a handle as the user will need to push down on the handle for ease of use, rather than having to grip the handle and turn it. the design in itself is organic and has elements of the colombo design logo on its tip, thus adding some form to the handle and also referring back to the company.
manufacturing process:
the manufacturing process of the handle will be casting mainly and then secondary to casting will be the electroplating process to apply the brass surface finish. the two processes are relatively affordable and are simple to achieve.
materials:
the materials for the handle will be cast iron to get the shape of the handle and then the handle will be electroplated with brass to achieve its elegant finish. the cast iron will make the handle cheaper to make and the brass electroplating will allow the product to achieve its high quality finish and to make it more eye-catching. the product can also be finished in chrome, stainless steel and it can be galvanized.
details:
the mould of the handle will not have a horizontal split line at the handle has a twist in it that will interfere with its removal from the mould, the mould will have to have a split line at 45 degrees to allow the handle to be released from the mould.
