toro el dormir carving set by steve perdicakis from australia
designer's own words:
The toro el dormir is a carving set constructed completely from silver sheet. The knife and two prong fork are both stamped from 5mm silver sheet. The fork is then stamped with a cutting tool to notch both ends followed by a pressing to form the 145 degree angled sections. The knife goes straight from stamping to a sharpening tool. These two pieces have been designed to be manfactured as easily as possible.
The sculptural form is reminiscent of a bull resting in the open plains hence the spanish name, toro el dormir, that translates to sleeping bull. My intention was to design a carving set that was simple to manufacture whilst generating the allure of a must have dining companion. The knife and fork interlock and sit gracefully on a table as one form that can permanently rest in the open as a sculptural piece.
It is my vision that the toro el dormir carving set could be the centre piece of many contemporary homes dining experiences, not just a utensil that gets thrown back into the drawer after every use.
