the torch by rutilo libero from canada
designer's own words:
The “torch” is a modular and sustainable lighting system. This innovative system introduces a new ethic way of using light and reducing energy consumption. The concept takes its inspiration from a torch - an element that has been around for thousands of years.
The core element of the concept is a portable light source that follows a person through its habitat. In this way, the light source may be used only where it is needed, by avoiding multiple and sometimes unnecessary lights located around the space. Every family member could have its own “torch”. Moreover, the “torch” could be an interactive way of educating children how becoming energy-efficient.
The lamp is divided in 3 parts. The first one is an optical and lighting rotating module. The second module contains pc board, battery and switcher. The third one is a connection module, which should be plugged in the charging fixture. Due to its modularity and different charging fixtures, the “torch” could act as: wall, suspended or table lamp or simply as a portable light source.
The “torch” is more than just a design project, but a social-anthropologic concept that can educate people about the benefits of efficient lighting.
