designer's own words:

tondo spins, distributes, links and keeps us connected. It is a tray and a dish, a container and a supporting piece; it is cold and heat and expands the functionality of a classic revolving table-centerpiece. a vast array of usage and operation capabilities is offered by tondo's synthetic design, which combines an item obtained through a simple manufacturing process (poured & cast clay) with different basic operations (filling it up with water at different temperatures) that allow for an expansion of its functionalities, which include keeping temperature of solids and liquids and sending out direct moist heat so as to preserve all properties of cooked meals.

tondo, a porcelain & wood piece, is made up from four components: a tray, a container for liquids, a wooden bearing and a wooden plug.
the container admits cold or hot water and conducts water temperature to the products on the tray, which has holes on its surface in order to facilitate transmission of moist heat in the form of steam. it also has protruding ends to avoid slips and an intermediate surface which offers several supporting points. its wooden bearing allows tray rotation and the plug prevents any temperature losses. you can refill Tondo by merely taking this plug out.

all these features make tondo a simple, multifunctional product intended as a response for cultural diversities and different relationships when dining.
