to the horizon

to the horizon by luisa grasso from italy

designer's own words:

the logo concept for moleskinerie.com is founded on the idea that for the moleskine lovers nothing is better than see the object of our own love near the lettering moleskine.
growing from this idea the logo is a simple “portrait” of an old dear travel companion, the moleskine notebook .
the purpose of visualizing your axiom “simple symbols are perfect for a more direct, efficient communication” leads to the minimal and sans serif design characterizing this logo.
the logo composition is formed by several simple coloured shapes on a transparent background which creates the image of a notebook moleskine placed in a perspective construction.
the perspective construction stages the notebook laying on the back cover on an undetectable desk (maybe some sketches in a café around the world), but it can be rotated of 90° or -90° and the scene changes with the notebook putting on the binding in an invisible bookcase (maybe some relates waiting for an editor); in addition the white strip (the elastic band of the notebook) runs to the horizon between the two black forms, so suggesting a nomadic life on the road.
the logo colour is black like the classic nameless notebook, but the logo can be ranged in several colours without losing its own communication efficacy, character and reference to the legendary notebook (sometimes ranging in several colors too).
therefore the logo is strong of a great flexibility in use but it is always easily recognizable and keeps being a powerful icon.
it can be sited anywhere and it is reproducible on any surface, because, made from basic and essential forms in a single colour, it marks direct and absolute like an ancient seal.
the logo can be used in all print and electronic media, it can be scaled in any size, it can be rotated and can be changed of colour without losing its own message that i think must be the same of the moleskine brand with its own family of “nomadic objects dedicated to our mobile identity: flexible and brilliantly simple tools”.
