THELIOS

THELIOS by Product Design from india

designer's own words:

THELIOS is an environment friendly cooking appliance. It generates the energy from the difference in temperature between the two sides of the Peltier module, stores the generated energy in the embedded rechargeable battery within and supplies the stored energy to the induction coil for cooking.

THE CONSTRUCTION
1. Energy Generation
It has 14 interconnected Peltier modules held by a flexible and heat resistant silicon sheet rubber. Each Peltier module consists of a layer of alternatively connected p-type and n-type semiconductors sandwiched between a sheet of artificial graphite which is supposed to be the cold side and a thin flexible sheet of Cerac forming the warm side.

2. Energy Storage
The embedded rechargeable battery stores the generated energy for use during cooking.

3. The Induction Cook Top
The central platform is the induction plate with feather touch On/Off and temperature regulating controls.

WORKING
The difference in temperature between the two sides of the Peltier module make heat flow from the hot side to the cool side giving rise to a voltage across the two ends which makes current flow through the semi-conductors; this being termed Seebeck Effect.
The energy thus generated by the Peltier Modules is then stored in the embedded battery which in turn supplies it to the central Induction Plate for cooking.

Solar energy is the most common source of heat available to charge THELIOS. Once the food is cooked, the appliance can be turned inside out, so that the warm side faces inward and can be used as a lid. Moreover, the heat from the cooked food which would otherwise be wasted, facilitates to charge the battery which in turn can be used to heat the food at the dining table before eating.

The temperature difference required to charge THELIOS could even be achieved using ice cubes to extract heat from the cool side.

COOKWARE
The cookware designed for THELIOS is double walled, except for the bottom. It is made of magnetic grade of stainless steel. The double wall retains heat for a longer time and also prevents the outer surface from heating up, thus eliminating the need for heat insulated handles.
The regular induction ready utensils can also be used on THELIOS.

OTHER ACCESSORIES
- Wooden lid with small holes is provided which prevents wastage of excess heat while cooking.
-A small stand is provided to place THELIOS on, to raise it above the ground to allow better heat dissipation from the cool surface.

USP
-Compact and efficient
-Environment friendly
-can generate energy to charge itself; both from heat and cold
