designer's own words:
This is more a design for the door lock mechanism, than for the door handle.
You don't turn the handle, you push or pull it. When the door opens towards you, you pull the handle. When the door opens away from you, you push the handle.
This mechanism is only a new system foor the mechanism in the door, the door slot in the wall doesn't have to be modified: when you use the handle, the 'jaw' (don't know how that's called in English) of the door lock get's pulled out of the slot in the wall, into the door. It works the same as any other usual door handle-system, only you push or pull the handle rather than twisting it.
I haven't designed the mechanism itself yet, I've only got the idea. When the idea seems good enough for this competition, I could work out the mechanism.
I do have designed a door handler for this mechanism. This handler can be used both for the push- as the pull-side of the door.
