solar powered tomb stones by lecafelkf from china
designer's own words:
everywhere, death is thought to be the end to one’s physical self. graveyards are often considered to be creepy, scary and lonely. in the short listed entry by lecafelkf from china, the proposal features the integration of a concave solar powered grave, with mirrors that redirect sunlight to a central heating tower. each tombstone can be highly individualized - size, shape, height and material can be tailor made to individual preferences. a reflective angle within the design dictates the top surface curvature to ensure parallel sun rays are reflected to the same focal point. while the graves are respectfully stationary, the central tower moves to catch the reflected light. vegetation may vary to suit different climates - for example, where there is plenty of daylight, there could be more trees in the area. the initial higher cost is offset by the energy produced, with the investment of a past or present generation becoming an asset for future generations.
is this the end?
or a new beginning?
