the sail

the sail by KRZYSZTOF URBANSKI from poland

designer's own words:

The aim of the project is to create a bathroom that through its form and function makes an impression of space in motion.
The main component of the bathroom is a barrier consisting of a sail and a diaphragm that together form a lifelike, movable and ever-changing unit. The unit is enabled to move thanks to adjustable framework and stretchy linen that is treated either with inflating, deflating of the air or tightening of the fabric.
The way of space division in the bathroom depends on its form and function and consists in free adjustment of size and shape of the barrier between the bathroom and the bedroom.
While using the bathroom it is possible to close the space entirely, which will make the bathroom larger through air inflation of the sail and framework setup. Otherwise, the user can conceal his/her bathroom by putting the sail close to the side wall while deflation of the air will make the sail adjacent to all objects in the bathroom creating an abstract sculpture, adjustable by means of strength of the air stream.
The main source of lighting in the bathroom is a slit with light screens on the side wall and the ceiling. During the day the bathroom is lit from the bedroom and the diaphragm can be chosen in any colour to match the interior.
