The objective of the public bicycle system is to take care of the environment and reduce the energy consumption. It will play the role of an environment-friendly traffic method for the healthy urban life. However, the reality of the urban life plays the role of an obstacle against the introduction of the system. Other than the sidewalks for pedestrians and the roads for cars, there are not many places left for the establishment of the rental centers for bicycles and the facilities for the storage of bicycles, because of the endless number of buildings.

There is a solidly-structured subway system connecting 220 subway stations throughout Seoul Metropolitan City. By using such a system, I would like to suggest the public bicycle system connected to the subway for easy management, maintenance and repair in connection with each subway station. In such a case, the places for the storage of bicycles are provided not on the ground but under the ground.
