the memory theater by sjngy from canada
designer's own words:
The Memory Theater is a place of remembrance. Compatible with both visual and auditory formats, such as music, photos and videos, the Memory Theater preserves the past memories of the loved ones. The digital media can be easily stored into the system and be accessed for a cinematic viewing. Designed to be added to the current cemeteries and crematoriums, this micro-scale theater can be easily assembled in any indoor space. The semi-private space of the theater allows visitors to have solitary experience inside. The memory Theater is a new form of a personalized memorial space that embodies the essence of the loved ones.
The Memory Theater is a modular construction, of an overall dimension of 2100 x 2130 x 2400mm. The entire structure is built with prefabricated walls, each assembled with birch wood veneer finish, sound proofing insulation panels, gypsum board and wood stud wall frame. The theater consists of the following design elements: a built-in projector with wall-mounted screen, a surrounding sound system that creates a theater-like environment, two mood-light fixtures with energy efficient LEDs, keyboard and mouse pad built into the seating and the wall, and the retractable seating and the ramp which allows easy access for wheelchairs.
The project challenges conventional designs of memorial space. The current digital world has introduced technologically advanced tools that allow us to capture and precious moments in our lives. The Memory Theater utilizes these digital products and preserves the media in the private network infrastructure. Memory can be now easily stored and accessed. It is a new way of bridging our present time with the loved ones from the memorable moment of our past.
