designer's own words:
1, Work summary
Presenting the chair with an in-built telephone! Placed within popular public areas such as parks and squares, actively allowing people to use the in-built phone system to call any of the other chairs. People could use this to find out the best cafe or whatever they may want to know from someone who they do not know. The chair is aiming to promote communication between unknown people by locating the chair at public place.
The theme "ANTICIPATION" was interpreted as mention later, the chair design to make people enjoy anticipation experience is presented.
2, Concept
This work was born with the question "is anticipation fun?" How do you make anticipation fun? The expectation of the unexpected is come up as one of them. Commonly, making a right anticipation needs a flood of dates and information. However, anticipation made with the dates gathered coincidentally, in a sense, could be considered as uniqueness. With making the most of the unexpectated, which exists in cities, anticipation experiences which are taking a call to unknown people is designed with the chair.
3, Background
With the expansion of electric devices, the continued privatization is accelerated. This causes a social problem where people no longer have any physical interaction with others. This obviously indicates that social needs towards "ties" and "real" in behind of the social changes needs new kinds of communication interface in real physical environment.
4, Design details
Because of the limitation of the image creation, it had to be simple. The design has to be more iconic to impress people. There are three important points to design the chair, which are comfortable seating, designing the border between public and private and usability of the telephone. Wide seating allows a number of people to use it. Arched shape sealing made of woods and fence shaped metal make people feel private. Simple telephone design attracts people to use it.
