the black rectangle by maria inês chambel from portugal
designer's own words:
with our project we intent to express the charisma and status of the brand, which history includes some of the most charismatic personalities of the 20th century, combining some historic typefaces with the strong presence of the simplicity and timeless "black rectangle".
as such we used the symbolic and distinctive elements of the object: the elastic page-holder, the hard black cover and the strip. to them we added two typefaces (meridien and frutiger) with an equal historical dimension, and both of them designed for french type foundries, the same nationality as the bookbinder who produced and supplied the first notebooks in paris.
our logos come together the strenght of the black notebook with the grace of it's simplicity.
typefaces are light and the letters have a good space between them to manifest the weightlessness of the notebooks.
