the act of pressing by kyter steffes from usa
designer's own words:
when abstracted to its essence, gutenberg's printing press exists as a diagram in which the act of pressing ink onto paper becomes a narrative, powerfully illustrating the moment between production and product when the craft of the individual is revealed. it is this fertile moment that exists between the conception and realization of an idea that perfectly describes what it means to create.
the process of diagramming and distilling gutenberg's machine reveal the primary elements of the screw, handle, type, and frisk-it, once removed from the their context, as a powerful graphic that illustrates the fertile moment within the printing process.
all work done in the process of developing this logo was done through both digital and analog means. computer drawings were manually transferred onto the pages of the sketchbook, analyzed and introduced back into the computer where further changes could be made. the final product is a graphic that clearly illustrates moleskinerie as facilitating a transference of thoughts and ideas on the most fundamental and creative level.
