Sunmao is a traditional Chinese wood joint system widely used in the furniture industry in the past. It provides solidity, flexibility and beauty to the joint and creates a subtle interconnection between different parts. Most importantly, unlike the modern furniture industry, Sunmao enables people to dissemble and assemble different pieces easily.

The design is based on our interests in the Sunmao system. We improve the Sunmao joint by applying magnetic elements to realize real-dissemble. Our team notices almost all furniture designs nowadays are non-dissemble because of two reasons: 1. The joints are glued or dead tied. Even the Sunmao joint people utilized in the past were glued after assemble so there were seldom real-dissembled designs; 2. The joints are assembled by hardness. In reality, a small percentage of the users are willing to use screw drivers and wrenches to take the furniture apart.

Our design will successfully solve these problems by using magnetic force. When people need to dissemble their furniture in situations like moving or storing, they can easily take apart the pieces with little effort.

Further than that, we make this system into a user interactive design strategy with a phone APP. By using this APP, users can not only purchase our latest designs, but can also customize their pieces by sending us request. If users want to get something that is out of our design gallery, they can simply sketch out their ideas and we will try to make them into prototyps.
