tapovan meditation and temple complex by ATPL from india
designer's own words:
Tapovan aims at creating a serene spiritual environment that benefits all, and this 24,000 sq ft temple complex nestled amidst six acres of gardens, will do just that!
The temple complex comprises of three blocks – A Temple, a Yagyashala and a Meditation Hall – each having its own specific function and use.
The design approach was to create three blocks, each with its own unique identity, but carefully integrated to form a cohesive whole.
To achieve this the three blocks were built on a raised plinth with intricate carvings. All three buildings were given an octagonal shape, which represents the eight dishas or directions.
A colonnade of highly ornate sand stone-clad columns, with carvings of typical Indian motifs and auspicious symbols, were used to unify the three blocks. The large water bodies and fountains surrounding the buildings were designed to create a sense of serenity and calm within the complex.
The Temple is dedicated to Shri Ram. The inner sanctum of the temple is placed eccentrically, to create more space towards the front, and provides ample space for those larger gatherings on special religious days.
The Yagyashala, complete with a Havan Kund under a large semi covered space, is ideal for performing Vedic fire ceremonies, rites and rituals.
The Meditation Hall is big enough to accommodate about 90 people, with each person having enough space to peacefully meditate without being disturbed by the others. The hall is also often used for activities such as yoga and sermons etc. Ancillary spaces such as offices and stores have also been integrated into the design of this building.
If it’s a place of peaceful relaxation, quiet contemplation, or a place for spiritual awareness and growth that one seeks, it can be found at Tapovan.
