taj door handles are an inspiration from the ancient indian myth of white and black taj mahal, a story that excites many readers . Just like door knobs are on both the sides of a door and act as mirror images of each other the same way taj door handles are mirror images of each other but re-lives the myth of the taj, a dream that was not achieved by the mightiest of the kings. the form of the taj door handles is an inspiration from the floral patterns that the Mughals carved out in most of their structures. the mughals were quite fond of gardening which was visible in their buildings and structures.
the handle is the abstract form of a creeper commonly found in the mughal gardens.taking the metaphor to create a function form. the upper side of the door handle has a creeper pattern carved moving from one end to the other which was an attempt to create grip in the door handle .one side of the door handle is carved out of white marble and the other side in black marble. and don't let the looks deceive you both the marble handles are quite light weight. marble carving works has an ancient history in india and this work has been carried out since the great Mughals came to india, but is rapidly declining which is making it difficult for the crafts men to sustain so making this an attempt to help the craftsmen get out of poverty and saving this great craft from dying. the craftsmen use diamond and steel chisels to carve out the stone. the entire process involved coming up with a concept, with form sketches and making rough mock-ups in thermocol and the selected form was 3D modeled and carved out in marble stone.taj door handles was an attempt to provide the user a
glance at the royal and luxurious life of the mughals .
