designer's own words:

TABOJAA is inspired by the molecular hexagon structure of ice and the properties of a glacier. A glacier is a modular built environment, containing layers of new white snow and compressed crystal clear ice. The volume expands and contracts naturally with the
seasons.

according to the development oftransparent OLEDs (Organic Light-Emitting Diodes), the aim was to design a luminaire which supports the specific possibilities for the latest lighting technology and to design a luminaire that has potential commercial use. OLED is a very environmentally friendly light source, it can be recycled like glass and contains no heavy metals.

Tabojaa is a modular luminaire where thin surfaces create volume. The suspended luminaire combine transparent OLEDs, captivating forms and light weight material. The surfaces play with opaque white and transparency creating contrast when switched on and off.
The OLEDs visually emphasize the special characteristics of the luminaire.
Almost endless variety of shapes can be created with Tabojaa as the combination of ajoining modules can create a variety of shapes.
It can be exclusive to any size which formulates individuality within a space.

Tabojaa is potentially a luminaire for environments of leisure and commercial areas, museums and other public spaces.
The luminaires overall dimension can be flexible due to its modular components. This can range from a single module (2 OLEDs) to a
modular lighting ceiling (maximum light for dynamic lighting situations).

The target groups are companies wanting to invest in a product for the future or private customers who want to buy the latest technology where design and practicailty meet.

The design consists of a minimum value of material and an easy access to the light source.

Switching the transparent OLED on, the surface lights up and creates a dialogue between material and light. Each module includes two OLEDs.

The modules are made of opaque and clear Plexiglass in 3mm thickness. The white surface acts as a reflector for the artificial light while the clear material interacts with daylight. For mass production of TABOJAA, Injection Molding would have the highest demands in terms of functionality, freedom of design and aesthetics.

The modules can be arranged in different ways by the connection of magnets at the touching surface. The magnets also prevent the modules from turning upside down since one side of the OLED is stronger than the other.

The user has the freedom to choose a homogeneous arrangement in
one material or a mix of transparent and opaque material and arrangement. Additional modules without a light source can be combined in the system.

The dimension of TABOJAA can be flexible as the shape can be accustomed to the size of the OLEDs. This will not effect the overall design concept as this luminaire can be adjusted to the development of new OLEDs. The measurements of the transparent OLEDs produced by LG Chem are 55 x 53 x 1 mm . This supports the design of a surface based luminaire using 12 LG Chem panel for TABOJAA.
