SYNAPSE by yukisugawara from japan
designer's own words:
Five senses are meant to be for humans and animals to detect the outside world, and at the same time, the outside world is receiving information from humans. Humans feel the coldness and hardness on something they touch for example. Meanwhile, the object might be sensing the coldness and the hardness of humans’ hands.
Synapse enables to visualize what the object senses from humans. The rays of light spread through the door express the electrical signal of senses that the object received. The harder the doorknob is grasped, the wider the light will spread, and the warmer the hand is, the brighter the color will get. This visualization makes humans to rethink about how to interact with objects, the physical situation of own, and other new realizations through casual actions, such as opening a door.
A door was selected as the subject of this work, because of its presence as one of the most touched objects in our daily lives, and its shape flat and wide, we thought it would be admirable for presenting something to humans. The doorknob could be the input, and the door as a whole could be the output.
