designer's own words:
The form of the Squirm Chair is designed to absorb the excess energy of teenagers. Three seating positions are accommodated by the exaggerated saddle form of the chair: One can sit back, straddling the desk surface which can support a laptop computer or turn 180o and lean forward against the seat “back”. A more active position can be taken by sitting sideways (please see 3rd image). The entire chair rotates and sits low to the ground.
The chair also serves as a communications cockpit. Incorporated into the chair body is a USB hub and a universal dock for a mobile phone. Once placed into this dock, the phone is connected to an internal antenna and internal cable which lead to a headphone jack integrated into the seat back.
The chair’s structure consists of an open, recycled polypropylene pocket which holds the soft foam, slipcovered seating surface. This padded insert is held in place by the lip of the polypropylene pocket or shell. The insert and slipcover can be removed for laundering.
