As a playful pocket gadget, Solar Fold is a self-sustaining glowing invention, which helps conserve the environment by using solar energy for illumination.
8 small cubes in a 2 by 2 matrix array form a bigger cube. By a simple folding mechanism illustrated above, the inside faces are unfolded to the outside. The Solar Fold adopts this inside-outside relationship for the light emitting and receiving surfaces. The outside faces are covered with photovoltaic panels; the inside faces covered with Light Emitting Diode (LED) panels. Within each small cube is a solar capacitor regulated by an Integrated Circuit (IC) and a frame with magnetic sensor switches at the corners.
The Solar Fold is “fed” with solar energy during the daytime with the “Photovoltaic” facing outside. By unfolding it to make all LED panels facing out, the Solar Fold is switched on for illumination.
