sol by lara mikocki from australia
designer's own words:
Sol is an innovative speaker design combining music with sustainability to bring music into a healthier future.
This is achieved through a simple concept where the speaker has a solar panel located on its "belly" or underside and suction caps on the "feet" so that it can be attached to any window to be in direct exposure to the sun for charging, and can be left there to just enjoy the music. This "solar panel/suction cup" concept has been applied to lighting but not speaker design, pushing all the buttons for originality :)
Combined with wireless technology, this speaker is easily situated in any space that needs music which is every space! (Like the car)
The concept follows through with the outer casing being injection moulded from reclaimed thermoplastics.
Aesthetically, the "concentric" style speaker design is inspired form the sun itself, where the music aims to emulate a radiation via its music.
A fresh and simple yet sensible design to allow music to play (loudly) a part in a sustainable future.
Sol- bringing music into a healthier future
Using suckers, Sol takes advantage of the sun streaming in through the window, so the solar panel is directly exposed to the sun’s energy, teamed with a fully recycled outer casing from reclaimed thermoset plastics to make a very healthy unit
Sol uses the fast growing technology of bluetooth to listen to music from your ipod etc. keeping the speaker as easy to use as it is to enjoy! The concentric speaker design is inspired from the sun itself, intending to emulate radiation through music
