smart cross mark by MYUNGSU LEE from korea
designer's own words:
After taking prescribed medicine for one’s illness period, the medicine could be found lying neglected in a drawer. The neglected and unused medicine would be dumped eventually. These dumped medicines gradually pollute the soil and the water in various ways and this pollution could interfere with an ecosystem’s natural happenings. This could cause environmental disaster to the humanity in future.
Medicine have an expire date and it is not easily recognizable. Generally, consumers know when medicine was prescribed but it is hard to know when to dispose. So, the right time of medicine disposal should be informed and a safe way for disposal of expired medicine is needed.
As I suggested, the medicine packet is designed in letter-envelope shape, and it is designed to show expire date visually strong.
Red nano-ink applied cross mark which has many air holes detects chemical reaction from expired medicine which is decayed. After detection, the air holes become blue color and cross marker becomes purple color. Visually informed expire date is very effective way to show people to stop taking pills and to show that ‘it’s time to dispose it’.
Procedure of disposal is very simple, just close the envelope-shaped medicine packet, post it to the public health center or bring it to any drug store nearby for safe disposal.
The rear side of the envelope-shaped medicine packet is similar to universal medicine packet and general information provided by a drug store is written on it. Address of local public health center and receiver paying postage are printed on the front side of the envelope-shaped medicine packet. So, it works as an envelope.
Therefore, safety of medicine during the validity period can be provided to consumers and protection of environment can be made by safe disposal.
