skateboard folha seca by fibra design sustentável from brazil
designer's own words:
The skateboard Folha Seca (meaning dry leaf in English) is the result of an open project to develop an ecofriendly skateboard. The project was hosted by the Innovation platform Lets Evo.
In accordance with the concepts of fair trade and sustainable design, the skateboard ’s material was developed by observing techniques of traditional communities and exploring the variety of botanical families in Brazil. The Folha Seca is made with BIOplac, an ecofriendly composite that uses non wood resources, drawing on the biodiversity of Brazil. The material is formed of seven layers bonded with a vegetable based adhesive. The outer layers are made of Pupunha Veneer, which uses waste materials from the sustainable palm heart industry. The core of BIOplac is made with 3ply Organic Mosso Bambu, grown and produced in Brazil (agrotoxic free) and reinforced and with a composite of 70% natural fibres and 30% polypropylene.
Even the aesthetic design of Folha Seca is inspired by nature, in the shape of the leaves that fall from trees in autumn.
