shelter naut by rodrigo chain from colombia
designer's own words:
Shelter-naut, is a mobile home designed for urban homeless around the world, adaptable to any kind of shopping cart. Inspired on the Nautilius, one of nature’s most successful mobile home, shelter-naut was created to protect the homeless from extreme weathers as well as to be portable for them to move around the city. The structure is an easy to inflate "rib" system, made of a very light but resistant colored textile. The appearance of the new cart will change completely the image of the usual homeless, giving them a very important roll in public spaces. This formal impact that these homeless will generate, eventually will create a better relationship between the city and the homeless; known in ecology as MUTUALISM. While de homeless recycle and keep cities clean, they receive shelter-nauts and embellish cities public spaces, making the city/homeless relationship more coherent.
