Sense Speaker by sharifah nasser from singapore
designer's own words:
From young to old, music and radio airplay have been a common factor among my family and friends. My mum will be listening to the radio all afternoon while doing chores whereas music is always being played in the background at my workplace. With the audio devices being such an integral part of the modern life, I am curious about the idea of having an audio speaker doing much more than just playing music, can it be a form of receiving correspondence as well by syncing our smartphones and tablets? Achieving this will bring in another of human personalisation and ultimately create a tighter personal social network based around a common physical item found in the house.
Conceptually, Sense Speaker lives in our homes unobstructively, pushing events, notifications as well as messages from family and friends wirelessly, all while still playing music. With Sense, we are able to get emotionally connected with our family members and understand their routines as each of the family member is subscribed to the device through the Sense Speaker app.
E ink screen is choose instead because of its long battery life and comfort to the eyes. The design of Sense is inspired by the carrier pigeons which were used to deliver correspondence, tying in with my concept of connection.
