The door stoppers available in the market are mostly a simple wedge, kick down type or plunger type. These are found to be ineffective and also inefficient in holding the door from moving in both directions.
A wedge is difficult to use and also might get misplaced. Kick down type stopper holds one direction movement only and is difficult to disengage with foot due to lack of space. Plunger type slips out on dusty and uneven floors levels. Rubber gets easily worn out due to excessive rubbing with floor. Hence these stoppers are found to go non-functional very soon especially when the rubber bush is worn out and unit need to get replaced very often!
The new concept of bidirectional stopper is equipped with a simple triangular shaped free unit pivoted at its top on to a press down unit. To engage it on to the floor, it’s simple pressed down and retains its position with the help of a rack & pinion kind of mechanism inside. To deactivate (release rubber bush from floor), the holding tooth plate (switch cum leaf spring) is pushed backward. To retract back automatically, a wire spring is used inside. Triangular unit topples when the door tries to move, and doesn’t get rubbed horizontally, hence wear out less. More the door pushes or pulls the activated stopper, more the triangular unit gets jammed.
The unit can be made with thick sheet metal, hence can last longer. The screws are exposed minimum with only one seen outside and remaining two engaged from below.
