designer's own words:

Plastic bags (polyethylene) are an inseparable part of consumerism in contemporary life world-wide. They are cheap, effective and available, but create an ecological nuisance that affects the quality of our life.
The attempts to recycle the bags were not that successful, and although a perishable alternative is offered in the market, it is not common enough among the supermarkets and market-places.
Re-using the polyethylene bags in the homes has its good intentions, but is not efficient in the long-run.
The SACK-IT project is founded upon a goal to collect re-usable plastic bags from the homes and markets and re-create them into a new product.
The SACK-IT products are hand-bags, Wallets, coin-purses etc.
The plastic bags are hot-pressed between 160°-190°C and assemble a large, strong plastic sheet. Every sheet creates a random colorful pattern. Although the aim is a leather-like texture, the thickness can be controlled by how much layers of plastic bags you press together and ranges from a thin, crispy material to thick hard plastic. The new SACK-IT material is strong, water-proof and gives new life to the non-eco disposable bags.
The sheet is then cut and sewn or welded into the different products.
The bags that once started as a disposable vessel in a consumerist act now perform as a permanent one; Hold money and credit cards, cell phones and personal objects.
