Sitting down, taking shelter from the rain, going up, glancing over. Human and architectural spaces relate strongly in everyday life. This work is a representation of human behaviours caused by architecture in outer space. Human activities created in one continuous space may create new lively “community” space.
Taking a cue from "Hand with Reflecting Sphere" by M.C.Escher. (Please have a look this reference.) According to one theory, "this" space and the space in the sphere connect through a hand, outside of the sphere in the picture.
In common space, architectural elements like bench, roof, stairs, view from the high place and people have a relationship as five fingers which has functions both by individuals and group. Elements create a community in space.
Different space and different human activities relate each other due to this object like fingers or crease transforming gradually.
(Process)
The geometry is created with Rhinoceros®, 3D modeling software and Grasshopper®, a graphical algorithm editor. Setting some closed curves vertically and twisting and scaling by sin function with parameters, one continuous surface is produced. Each part of surface represents benches and roof and stairs at the same time and space. This surface creates relaxed space for people.
