this experiment is based on a picture i have found of an old doorknob (see att.). why did this twisting knob get out of time? the moment of forces needed to rotate is more equally divided, if this knob is compared to a regular handle. the modernized version of the knob i drew, is an integrated part of a door shield. variations on this shield are possible for a cylinder lock, a free and occupied sign or no keyhole at all. sizes, roughly represented, are derived from an anti-burglary shield. i suggest to start this experiment using cast aluminium alloy, which could be recycled fairly good. recycling however, demands a plan to collect, so lease instead of sell might be an idea. material is saved by making parts hollow. the result of this experiment depends on how much customers are willing to give up their prefixed ideas on opening and closing a door. as the photo of the old fashioned doorknob shows: there is a good chance they will.
