reliquus by lara mikocki from australia
designer's own words:
Reliquus is a miscellany of cuff-bracelets and cigar band rings made from expended card board tubing and re-melted silver.
Reliquus offers an elegant approach to sustainability where even jewellery can play a role in its application. Entirely hand made, the rings and bracelets are able to be disassembled from the card board body and re-melted again for personal use.
The cardboard is treated with a natural varnish for it's sealant properties for a wearable artefact.
Reliquus offers an extension of life to a material, finding beauty in the imperfections.A playful approach to material role reversal, where the silver is the functional rather than the aesthetic, commenting on our perception of value: precious metal or precious earth??
Reliquus, a series of jewellery made entirely from reclaimed materials: cardboard tubing and sterling silver.
Cuff bracelets and cigar band rings find beauty in the idiosyncrasies of the cardboard, treated with a natural sealant.
Reliquus comments on current perception of value, with the cardboard dominating the object as the aesthetic and the sterling silver merely the functional:precious metal or precious earth??
