ralph zoontjens: prica doorhandle for colombo

ralph zoontjens: prica doorhandle for colombo by ralph zoontjens from netherlands

designer's own words:

the idea behind the ‘prica’ doorhandle was to create a light form full of positive energy, without appearing too gestural. the object is composed of several planar surfaces that seem to rest on an underlying, fluid substance. the front of the doorhandle is tilted upwards to catch as much light as possible, while providing an ergonomic grip. to improve this grip further, a thumbrest is created by letting the aforementioned underlying ‘fluid’ push a surface slightly outwards.

the planar surfaces of the doorhandle are matte and somewhat rough to the touch, while the areas that connect these surfaces are polished and smooth. this is possible through treating the surface of the die-casting mold in different ways.
