Quadrant

Quadrant by bryan welcel from usa

designer's own words:

the design idea is simple. take one of the best selling most recognized door handles of all time the crystal door knob and instead of using crystal design it entirely of metal. a complete reinterpretation of the crystal door knob. take the traditional rose cut crystal door knob make it entirely out of metal and finish it with a minimal rose. different metals and finishes can be used. variations of designs can be offered. a door knob with a wide appeal from minimal to traditional and everything in between.

one of my favorite designers is jasper morrison. the hope is that it will inspire him to design a series of minimal crystal door knobs or at least one simple crystal door knob using frosted crystal, glass or resin to go with it.

i've named it quadrant after a modular housing system i've developed www.quadranthouse.com. a modular display system using quadrant could be designed to showcase colombo's complete line of products at trade shows and exhibitions.

i set out to design a very minimal modern door knob in the traditional sense. in looking for another design competition by swarovski the idea came to reinterpret the traditional crystal door knob. i think a series of modern minimal door knobs using swarovski crystal would be very successful for colombo and this reinterpretation of the traditional crystal door knob without using crystal would be the perfect way to launch it.
