Poetry in Flower by Rapha-chan from brazil
designer's own words:
A bookmarker in form of a paper flower, with the name of the city laser cut as a lace, to celebrate and be a souvenir from the city of Matsuyama and its Literature. Besides marking book pages (many times we don't have a bookmarker when we need one), it can be use as decoration in many other ways - some are also suggested in the project.
Like a real flower, its weight is really light, making easy the life of tourists.
Pattern created as a lace, based on the writting of the name of the city with a marker pen. Designed to be laser cut.
Petals cut from the same paper lace patter of the picture before. Each one has 4,7cm x 6,5cm. All cut from watercolor paper. The “Matsuyama City” writtens have 1mm of width.
Sculpting the flower and pasting the petals. Not only the text, but the use of paper were thought to recall the importance of Literature for the city.
Flower structure after all the petals were glued and painted.
Details: the suggestion of watercolor paper (300g/m²) is because it has long fibers and can resist well to water, necessary to give shape to the petals without damaging the paper.
Details: added a plastic pearl to complete the center of the flower. At its widest points of the petals, the flower’s measures are around 10cm x 8cm x 7,5cm (height).
View of the flower, a bookmarker, inside an A5 japanese book. The stalk (made of wood not to damage the paper) has 15cm of length.
Beyond being just a bookmarker, as a souvenir from the city, here are some suggestions of use.
