Plastic Puff by Jose Pacheco from spain

A cushion seat, Puff kind, entirely made in plastic, low weight, about 40 cm of height and flower looking. The seat are divided in modules, radially distributed around a central piece. Every module or petal, that form the seat surface, is fixed to a central main piece that also is from where the legs are fixed. This central piece are actually two, when are togheter fits perfectly and stabilize the group. Every leg are a single plastic piece that have the function of cushioning. The assembly of the set is intuitive, fast and no needs tools at all. The materials are engineering plastics for moulding injection, being five the diferent moulds needed.

On this project the comfort are based more in the visual and emotional affectivity than traditional idea of comfort as something ergonomic comfortable, althoug this point never was forgotten. The suggestive flower forms evoke, attract and aswell reduce the fear of touching and playing with the object. The simple geometry tell us that sitting on it will be more a play, a desire, than a need. Their curved legs show that will be a flexible and cushioned seat and their colors call our attention. Therefore, the comfort start even before touching it. The low weight, simple use and great assembly easiness are the usefulness faces of this project.

The entirely project is ploted to be made in Engineering Polymers. The reason is that the seat must support loads till 100 kilograms and because the special geometry, that have efforts in almost every piece. Therefore is no possible to made it on lower quality plastics. The petals are fixed to rest of group by a small section as legs, then the properties required have to ensure deformity, elasticity and fatigue resistance, all togheter. The legs are the more loaded of efforts piece on the set, so their design parameters have the elastic deformation included.

The use of a Puff is universal and not need traslations. The naive forms and flower suggestion make it attractive as « design » object. The seat are designed to be sold dismantled for carrying it into the auto boot, to be assemble at home. This allow to reduce cost and final price of product. Is a funny furniture piece!
