designer's own words:
Piripot Is a musical pressure cooker based on the Indian typology otherwise known as whistling pressure cooker. The peculiarity of those utensils is that the pressure is cyclically released through a main weight valve whenever the maximum pressure is met. The cook counts the whistles according to each different recipe. The innovation introduced by Piripot is that instead of an annoying whistle a nice symphony is emitted by the valves. This is achieved through small pipes where the steam flows according to the openings on a rotating perforated disk. A small turbine is moving the disk controlling the tempo and the intensity of the song. The Concept was achieved by mapping the sensory stimulus of a variety of objects and actions. a Further step was to hybridize object that engage with opposite senses. The production technology and the material implied are similar to conventional kitchen utensil manufacturing and finishing.
