Pile: A place to host your friends in small spaces

A pile is created by moving elements from horizontal to vertical order.
„Pile“ uses this technique and creates a sculptural moment and transforms,
unstacked, into a hosting area for small apartments.

Stacking, as an intuitive action in our daily life, creates the main focus of the work. Stacking means to reorder elements from horizontal to a vertical and compact composition – creating a sculptural object. This ordinary but effective technique led to the essence of the work: A transforming furniture, with the gesture of opening up to reveal a space to meet.

Stacked, “Pile” is a layered object consisting of different shapes and colors, that contrast and merge. Unstacking the objects, however, equals a welcoming ceremony and exposes different elements that can arranged into various atmospheres.

Living in big anonymous cities where stacked apartments create skyscrapers, we are craving for the need of space and humanity. "Pile” transforms into a multifunctional object anticipating and fulfilling the needs of furniture responding to small apartments, at the same time brings cordiality in our ever faster and bigger growing cities – now and in our near future.

The table is crafted from metal. Due to its hole, the user is animated to place the lamp and other other objects, such as wine or a vise inside the hole. The lamp consists of a hollow wooden base, that contains a balancing weight, allowing to change the lamp to 3 positions. And the pole, consisting of a metal pipe and a LED-illuminated part. The 16 carpet pieces are made from a dense foam core covered with a range of colored fabrics. The fourth component of the Pile make the fabric coated sitting pillows, that offer both: sitting and the usage of a pillow for the head.
